Job Summary

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director Pathology Supervisor and the Medical Direction of the Pathologists perform evaluate and report routine and non-routine cytologic examinations microscopic screening of both gynecological and non-gynecological material and fine needle aspirations from various body sites.

Education

Four years of formal training or education beyond the high school level (e.g. Bachelors Degree).

Certification Registration & Licensure

Certification required: Cytology Technologist (American Society Clinical Pathologist).

Experience

None required. Completion of 12-month CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education and Accrediation) accredited cytotechnology program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen diagnose and report GYN cytology samples.

  • Screen diagnose and report NON-GYN samples.

  • Demonstrates compliance with corporate departmental and job-specific requirements.

  • Effectively communicates with physicians on calls involving results and problems.

  • Follow established department procedures and maintain quality control as outlined in the Cytology

    Procedure Manual.

  • Maintain all required records reports and files as defined in the Cytology Procedure Manual.

  • Participate in CAP surveys four (4) times annually for GYN and non-GYN.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
