Role Overview

A leading engineering business within the power utilities and renewable energy sector is seeking a Senior Power Line Design Engineer (HV) to take full technical ownership of high-voltage transmission and distribution projects.

This is a senior KPI-driven engineering role requiring proven hands-on experience in HV power line design. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end design delivery technical leadership and engineering support across multiple large-scale infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities & Performance Indicators

The role will be measured against the following role-critical KPIs:

• End-to-end design of HV power lines (132kV 765kV)

• Delivery of accurate high-quality engineering outputs including:

  • Line layouts

  • Detailed drawings

  • Technical specifications

  • Design calculations

• HV line routing and tower spotting using PLSCADD

• Full compliance with local international and client engineering standards

• On-time delivery of complete design packages across multiple concurrent projects

• Technical leadership mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers

• Coordination with internal teams contractors and external project stakeholders

• Provision of engineering support during construction commissioning and final handover

Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable)

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification criteria:

• BSc Eng / BEng with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience
  OR

• BTech with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification engineering experience

Additional mandatory requirements:

• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineer or Engineering Technologist)

• 710 years proven experience in HV transmission and distribution projects

• Demonstrated experience within the power utility sector (Eskom exposure advantageous)

• Strong practical experience using PLSCADD (essential)

• Valid South African drivers licence

• Own reliable transport
