POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Development Officers serves on a dynamic team of dedicated goal-oriented fundraising professionals. They work collaboratively as members of the Alumni Relations and Advancement Division team to maintain a highly integrated seamless approach to advancing the strategic and financial goals of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Together with the rest of the senior management team (Vice President and other Senior Officers) the Senior Development Officer is responsible for the success of the strategies and systems deployed to meet annual and multi-year fundraising and donor/alumni engagement goals.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the identification cultivation and solicitation of annual gifts and major gifts of $50000 or more.
- Lead efforts on individual giving and major gift fundraising.
- Direct the revenue-producing unit in Advancement comprising the individual foundation and corporate constituencies.
- Hire develop and evaluate advancement staff.
- Create annual operating and marketing plans.
- Monitor progress towards achieving revenue goals and evaluate performance metrics.
- Orchestrate schedule and chair for regular prospect clearance track and manage meetings.
- Set annual fundraising goals in concert with the Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs as directed by the CIA Leadership Team and outlined in the strategic plan.
- Develop goals and objectives for Advancement component units.
- Manage deadlines for budget Green Team and performance review processes.
- Collaborate with advancement officers; identify and qualify prospective donors using best practices to match donor interests with institutional priorities.
- Manage a portfolio of prospective donors meeting or exceeding institutional performance metrics.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure the successful solicitation of cash gifts from constituencies in support of the CIAs initiatives.
- Document contacts and prospects moves. Track progress using the CRM System and the prospect tracking system.
- Draft design and prepare proposals for soliciting prospective donors.
- Draft design and prepare personalized materials for donor recognition and stewardship including gift acknowledgment.
- Engage with major gift prospects face-to-face in one-on-one settings and at CIA-sponsored events.
- Develop collaborative relationships and communications across department lines.
- Integrate institutional core mission and priority initiatives within funding proposals.
- Implement a strategically planned travel schedule to meet with prospects and donors individually and at industry and CIA-sponsored conferences aligned with strategies and outcomes.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university. Concentration on fundraising advancement development communications business finance or related field preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in fundraising sales or higher education with a documented success matrix.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of staff management experience and credentials with demonstrated ability to identify hire develop train and mentor future leaders in development.
- Successful track record to date in previous corporate foundation and organizational roles producing superior results.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred membership with a fundraising or philanthropic organization such as CASE APRA etc.
- Masters Degree or advanced professional degree with a concentration on fundraising advancement development communication business finance or related field preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong analytical problem-solving and conceptual skills.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers.
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and discretion.
- Excellent written verbal communication and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational time management problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Must have a proven consistent track record showing the ability to work with all levels within an organization.
- Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
- Strong computer experience which must include the ability to work effectively with MS Office suite products i.e. Word Excel PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Able to travel periodically to other CIA locations due to business needs.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
- Must be available to work a flexible work schedule on graduation and registration days.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
- Regular work requires the use of a computer sometimes for more than eight (8) hours per day.
- Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds (such as file boxes binders etc.).
