Summary

The Publicist plays a key role in supporting clear timely and mission-aligned communication with press and stakeholders. This role develops and executes press strategies and manages day-to-day press logistics for on-site programs and events including coordinating private press visits accompanying press on site and supporting photo and video shoots. The Publicist maintains the museums press inbox and contact lists; oversees press mailings and tracking documents; and develops comprehensive press coverage reports. With strong organizational skills and attention to detail the coordinator supports cohesive storytelling and the smooth execution of press and communications initiatives that amplify the Museums visibility and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes press strategies drafts press releases assembles all related press materials and coordinates press events for assigned projects including exhibitions performances events and programs.
  • Creates updates and maintains online press kits on the museums press web site.
  • Serves as primary liaison between staff and members of the press.
  • Oversees and manages press previews photo shoots and other press events.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Qualifications

  • Background in journalism art history communications or public affairs and three to five years PR experience in positions of increasing responsibility or equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate a proven track record of media placements in print broadcast and online media. Familiarity with New York cultural press and prior experience in a cultural non-profit environment preferred.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral are required with experience writing for traditional/print and digital media preferred.
  • Excellent organizational abilities analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to not lose sight of the big picture.
  • Ability to work productively and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to meet fast-paced deadlines in a dynamic and creative setting.
  • Ability to manage many projects simultaneously establish and juggle priorities successfully meet deadlines and respond to a heavy load of press requests in a fast-paced complex institutional environment.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and Photoshop is essential.
  • Must be available to work some before- and after-hours events.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range:$65000 - $70000. Benefits include 20 days paid vacation leave; 10 days paid sick leave; 11 paid holidays; and 3 paid personal days; participation in a 401(k) savings plans life insurance; medical/health (including visual and dental); transit health and dependent care FSA; and pension plan.
