Job Title: Social Worker - Social Worker - Maternal Mental Health

Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital


The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical emotional and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907 the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.

The social worker in this position will work with various medical providers in the Rowan Centerand a consulting liaison psychiatrist to screen and treat the mental health needs of the Rowan Center is a hybrid job with three remote days and two days onsite but can change based on program needs.

Responsibilities include:

  1. providing support education and referral information to women experiencing perimenopause menopause and perinatal mood disorders including postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety.
  2. Screening patients using validated tools (e.g. EPDS PHQ-2/PHQ-9) and providing evidence-based short-term psychotherapy services to patients who screen positive for depression and/or who have other significant risk factors
  3. Facilitating therapeutic and psychoeducational support groups related to perinatal mood disorders reproductive issues and menopause.



Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include appropriate follow up via telephone to ensure all patients are connected to referral and/or mental health services and establishing relationships with other OB/GYN Mount Sinai practices community mental health providers maternal day treatment programs and inpatient psychiatric programs. The candidate should possess strong program planning skills excellent collaborative skills comfort with acute safety planning and an ability to provide rapid assessments and position requires a combination of in person and telehealth sessions.



Qualifications
  • NYS LCSW required.
  • Significant experience in maternal mental health.
  • PMH-C preferred
  • Exceptional assessment crisis and short-term treatment skills.
  • Experience using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale as well as PHQ2 & PHQ 9.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and cooperatively with an interdisciplinary team including medical and integrative medicine staff.
  • Ability to develop a focused practice in a new setting with interest in program planning and development.
  • Strong collaborative organizational/time management skills and flexibility.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Minimum of one year in current position.
