Job Description Summary
The Systems Engineering team provides Wind Turbine system expertise while leading development of new products turbine RTS activities and strategic projects. The team owns system level trade-off decisions and continuous improvement in product development processes for the Wind product portfolio.
The Senior Principal Engineer is a recognized expert in the development and design of utility scale wind turbines across the whole product as a system. The Senior Principal Engineer will apply systems engineering expertise and system thinking principles to the goal of providing a quality product that meets customer expectations while at the same time meeting GEV commercial targets. This to be achieved via the application of robust processes of design creation and optimization of systems identification and quantification of system requirements creation of alternative system design concepts carrying out design trade-off studies selecting and implementing the best designs and verifying that the design is properly integrated and executed.
Responsible for driving rigor technical quality and engineering excellence by engaging with cross-functional business stakeholders to constructively manage and resolve complex issues within the various teams. Expected to lead projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business. Responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Operates within the Offshore platforms and aligns with peer SPEs on common topics on other platforms.
- Drive activities related to new offshore wind product development and improving/ upgrading of existing products with an emphasis on total turbine system interactions and trades.
- Use judgement to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of product management technology and engineering.
- Initiate and review test and validation plans at the subsystem and system level.
- Lead and drive resolution of major field issues in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive and lead the development of component DFMEAs as effective tools to identify and manage risk.
- Steer the development of existing and new design practices including ensuring that lessons learned are captured and communicated.
- Represent GEV in external industrial or standard-setting bodies.
- Enhance and promote engineering excellence in the organization including development of system methods tools and standard work.
- Mentor and help grow technical expertise and promote the technical career path.
- Support the Chief Engineers Office in the execution of goals of the office.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree in engineering.
- Proven and solid experience in the wind industry.
- Demonstrated systems thinker balances risk appropriately considers lifecycle view of products and properly assesses trades between components/subsystems.
- Demonstrated clear thinker able to solve complex technical challenges and communicate actions/solutions in clear concise manner.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English
- Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment.
- Extensive wind turbine design experience
- RCA investigation and fleet performance management experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders. Build collaborative and supportive teams.
- Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Experienced in wind turbine certification by third parties.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully coach mentor and guide technical teams.
