The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canadas largest mental health teaching hospital and one of the worlds leading research centres in its field. With a dedicated staff of more than 5000 physicians clinicians researchers educators and support staff CAMH offers outstanding clinical care to more than 38000 patients each year. The organization conducts ground-breaking research provides expert training to healthcare professionals and scientists develops innovative health promotion and prevention strategies and advocates on public policy issues at all levels of government.

CAMH Foundation is charged with raising and stewarding funds in support of CAMH. Its role is to help transform the way we understand and address mental illness by raising awareness and increasing engagement across the country. Generous and dedicated supporters help CAMH advance discovery and innovation build spaces that promote recovery and break down the stigma of mental illness.

With a vision to inspire philanthropy to solve the greatest mental health challenges of our time the Philanthropy team is responsible for inspiring philanthropic support from individuals in the private sector making up over 70% of CAMH Foundations annual revenue. THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Senior Philanthropy Officer (SPO) is accountable for inspiring philanthropy in support of the greatest mental health challenges of our time. The SPO contributes to the collective revenue goals of the Philanthropy team by securing major gifts in support of CAMHs mission and funding priorities. Responsible for a donor pipeline of 125-150 major gift prospects and donors the SPO is accountable for supporting the identification cultivation solicitation and stewardship of donors who have capacity to support CAMH with multi-year gifts in the range of $100000 - $1M.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising Activity & Revenue

  • Individual accountability for a pipeline of 125-150 major gift donors and prospects and an average annual production goal of $3M (precise annual goals to be set based on pipeline and aligned with the goals of CAMH Foundation)
  • Able to proactively identify and grow new relationships to build a strong portfolio of donors
  • Accountable for developing and initiating meaningful cultivation plans for major gift level prospects and donors ($100000 - $1M range) and major-gift level affinity groups.
  • Familiar with a range of giving vehicles including cash donations gifts of securities multi-year pledge structures blended in-life and legacy gifts etc.
  • Develop an understanding of the educational research clinical and financial needs and goals of CAMH
  • Engage and collaborate with senior staff and volunteers in major gift cultivation solicitation and stewardship activities.
  • Provide regular activity reports and updates regarding goal progress to Philanthropy senior leadership and across Philanthropy team in support of collective team goals.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate professional and current Raisers Edge and hard-copy records including actions call reports and key metrics

Key Partnerships

  • Contributes to a strong culture for philanthropy across CAMH by creating collaborative relationships with hospital peers and specifically through the engagement of clinicians researchers and staff in donor-focused work
  • Work closely with CAMH Foundation colleagues and volunteers in an integrated and collaborative manner to support the full cycle of donor engagement (from prospect research to proposal development to personalized stewardship).
  • Develop proposals including budgets and milestones with appropriate approvals to realize a prospective donors philanthropic goals within the CAMH mission.
  • Advise on gift agreement terms and obtain appropriate approvals that reflect a shared understanding between the donor CAMH and CAMH Foundation to realize a gifts intent.
  • Ensure that compelling high-quality and strategic major gift materials including briefing notes communications briefs proposals acknowledgments letters and stewardship reports are prepared as required.
  • Plays a key role across Philanthropy team in active lead generation and migration strategies between mid-level legacy major gift and corporate donors.
  • Responsible for introducing donors and prospects to multiple CAMH relationships throughout their donor journey (with volunteers/Board senior leadership Hospital staff) as part of a donors evolving affinity with and connection to the CAMH mission.
  • Serve as lead staff manager on top Campaign prospect and donor strategies within their portfolio at times coordinating multiple CAMH relationships to craft a holistic engagement experience.
  • Able to navigate a complex multi-disciplinary academic health centre and healthcare foundation with diplomacy and discretion

Stewardship

  • Contribute to the development of strategies for effective stewardship of major gift donors within their portfolio and work closely with personalized stewardship lead and others to execute these strategies.
  • Collaborate with Foundation partners to establish and deliver appropriate stewardship plans ensuring gifts are handled and recognized according to Foundation policies and practices.
  • Work with gifts processing and Philanthropy support team to ensure that acknowledgements tax receipts invitations and other correspondence are sent in a timely manner

Volunteer Leadership & Coaching

  • Supports the identification of prospective volunteers for the purposes of recruitment efforts for the fundraising campaigns and the Board.
  • Inspires and effectively engages assigned campaign and Board volunteers in the identification cultivation solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors.
  • Supports assigned volunteers by leading regular prospect activity meetings.
  • Builds cultivation engagement and stewardship plans for assigned volunteers including their individual giving.
  • A post-secondary education or comparable combination of work and education experience.
  • Minimum of five years of fundraising experience preferably in major gifts; or equivalent experience.
  • A demonstrated track record of securing philanthropic commitments between $100000 $1M.
  • Extremely effective interpersonal skills with a professional presence and manner and capable of exercising independent judgment initiative and flexibility.
  • A strong communicator verbally and with strategic writing experience specifically producing inspiring proposals. A proven ability to understand and effectively convey key aspects of complex subjects.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically work proactively and manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  • Superb critical and analytical thinking decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organization planning and time management skills with exacting attention to detail.
  • A flexible team player able to collaborate with and inspire colleagues and senior volunteers.
  • Experience working with and coaching senior community volunteers in support of a collective vision such as a charitable mission.
  • Experience in a healthcare philanthropy environment and a comprehensive capital campaign environment is considered an asset.
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development with a growth mindset.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office software applications and demonstrated knowledge of Raisers Edge or equivalent.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary is competitive and based on experience with a hiring range of$107633 to $122112per year.
