Job Summary

Title: Relief Counselor- WORCESTER AREA

Pay Range: $18.50/hr

Schedule: Relief Counselors are Casual Agreement Employees who work as needed in BAMSIs residential and day services. Hours and locations may vary week to week depending on business needs.

What Youll Do:


Provide rehabilitative support to adults in Group Living Environments (GLE) fostering skills for daily living and community integration. Key responsibilities include:

  • TeachADLs(cooking budgeting medication management) and socialization skills.
  • ImplementTreatment Plansand behavioral interventions under clinician .
  • Transport residents to appointments and community activities.
  • Advocate for residents needs and model healthy coping strategies.
  • Maintain a safe clean home environment and complete timely documentation.


Work Obligations:

  • 16 hours per month. Hours will be audited on a monthly basis. Weekends start at 3PM on Fridays and conclude at 9AM on Mondays. Hours will be audited on a monthly basis.
  • Relief Counselorsmust work a minimum of one major holiday between July 1 and June 30th each year. BAMSI will assign employees to either Group A or Group B. Employees are responsible for selecting and working one of the holidays identified in their group. Holiday groupings will rotate every year and you will be notified of your assigned group annually. Holidays will be audited on a quarterly basis. Pick a holiday group: Group A: New Years Day Labor Day Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve Group B: July 4th Christmas Memorial Day and New Years Eve.
  • Employees are responsible for scheduling working and documenting hours worked.
  • Employees who fail to work the minimum hours per month will receive a warning on their first offense. Employees may be subject to termination on their second offense. Employees who fail to work one holiday within the year may be subject to termination.
  • Relief Counselors are obligated to work all shift for which they are scheduled unless it is impossible to do so because of illness or other emergency. If Relief Counselors are unable to work a scheduled shift they must speak directly to the program supervisor or on-call manager by phone and give as much notice as possible but a minimum of three
  • Relief Counselors are required to complete mandatory trainings within their first 60 days of employment. Relief Counselors are only eligible to work after they complete all required trainings. Relief Counselors must keep all required trainings current.

Benefits.Relief Counselors are eligible to participate in the BAMSI 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan and any other legally required programs that may have service requirements or other eligibility requirements for participation such as the Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law M.G. L. c. 149 148C and its accompanying regulations 940 CMR 33.00.


What You Bring:

  • High school diploma/GED; mental health experience preferred.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to assist with mobility (bending standing etc.).
  • Strong communication skills (English) and basic computer proficiency.
  • Compassion patience and a commitment to trauma-informed care.
  • Bonus: Lived experience or multilingual abilities (e.g. Spanish Portuguese).
