Outreach Counselor
The Michigan State University Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is seeking a clinician with a specialty in working with an international college student population; fluency in Mandarin is desirable. MSU has experienced a significant growth in recent years in the enrollment of international students particularly Chinese international students andCAPS is seeking to augment our current services to serve these populations. We work closely with the Office for International Students and Scholars and this position will serve as the primary liaison to that addition CAPS is an integrated mental health facility working closely with Student Health Services and requiring frequent cross-discipline referral and collaboration.
This position is responsible for the planning coordination assessment and preventative intervention of the centers outreach initiatives with an international student responsibilities include providing psychotherapy services to diverse clientele facilitating individual counseling and group services providing consultation advocacy and crisis intervention services and other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
University Health and Wellbeing subscribes to a hybrid work policy with expectation of two non-consecutive remote days per week.
PhD in related mental health field; Experience in working with international college students; fluency in Mandarin preferred; design and implementation of psycho-educational programming and outreach activities; experience in brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention; collaborative experience in interdisciplinary setting; experience with diverse college student populations from a multicultural/intercultural perspective. License eligible in the State of Michigan within eighteen months from date of hire.
One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a clinic/agency environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensure in the State of Michigan.
