What Youll Be Doing
CIBCs Payments business is an innovative vertical within the bank focused on delivering leading-edge solutions for corporate government and institutional clients. Our mission is to enable growth capital raising and investment across North America and key global financial centers positioning CIBC as the preferred Capital Markets banking partner.
To support this mandate you will help advance GTBs data and analytics capabilities in support of Payments and Capital Markets objectives enabling data-driven decision making across products services and client segments in Canada and globally.
Within Payments Global Transaction Banking (GTB) is a strategic and rapidly growing Capital Markets business encompassing Corporate Cash Management Correspondent Banking and Trade Finance teams.

As the first Data Scientist in our Payments GTB team you will play a foundational role in building advanced analytics capabilities developing scalable data pipelines and using advanced modelling to drive decision-making across product sales risk treasury and operations.
Operating in a fast-paced environment you will be part of a dynamic execution-focused Sales team. Your primary responsibilities will include optimizing efficiency (e.g. around product performance client segmentation portfolio penetration and profitability risk metrics etc.) and accuracy while driving revenue growth and delivering valuable insights for our clients and businesses. You will leverage your expertise in statistics machine learning and optimization to transform business challenges into effective data science solutions. You will also help enable self-serve analytics reports and tools for product and sales managers.

How Youll Succeed
Strategic Business Planning & Management - You will support the execution of GTBs strategy by aligning data science initiatives to business objectives and performance targets. You will provide actionable insights through ongoing analysis of portfolio performance pricing and net interest margin trends liquidity metrics and market dynamics to inform strategic decision-making. This may include supporting analytics related to rates and net interest margin performance portfolio profitability and client-level activity across regions industries and segments.
Product & Process Optimization - You will identify practical opportunities to improve product performance pricing effectiveness and overall client value propositions. This includes streamlining and automating reporting and enhancing analytics that support pricing rates net interest margin liquidity analysis and other GTB uses cases while driving continuous improvement across data and reporting processes. You will also help enable more proactive insights through automation such as improved ad-hoc reporting and monitoring of client activity and market events (e.g. bond issuances M&A activity).
Relationship Management & Collaboration - You will build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders across sales treasury product risk and technology teams as well as with external clients and partners. You will clearly communicate complex analytical concepts collaborate to understand business challenges and ensure alignment across teams to successfully deliver data-driven initiatives.
Leadership & Development - You will foster a culture of collaboration knowledge sharing and effective problem-solving. By providing context guidance and mentorship you will help ensure team initiatives align with GTBs overall objectives and contribute meaningfully to organizational success.
Who You Are
You have an advanced degree in Data Science Computer Science Mathematics Engineering Economics or a related field or equivalent work experience; a masters degree (e.g. MMA MBAN) is an asset.
You have at least 5 years of experience working in data science AI/ML or advanced analytics roles within complex data-driven environments.
You have experience applying analytics within financial services particularly in solving business problems across capital markets banking or related domains
You demonstrate strong technical expertise across data and analytics disciplines including data engineering practices business intelligence cloud-based data services statistics programming languages (e.g. Python SQL) as well as common AI/ML tool (e.g. scikit-learn XGBoost PyCaret Hugging Face/Transformers)
You are a strong communicator with the ability to translate complex analytical and technical concepts into clear actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
You are a problem solver with strong critical thinking and decision-making skills capable of independently analyzing complex problems and recommending effective solutions.
You are goal-oriented and execution focused motivated by building and scaling new capabilities in a fast-paced results-driven environment.
