About the role

This role contributes to the success of the City by enabling the organisation to fulfil its statutory requirements related to land use planning working collaboratively within a team of planners and development engineers.

As a Development Engineer you will play a key part in the assessment of planning building and plumbing applications review engineering drawings and provide practical engineering advice that supports highquality development outcomes across the municipality.

Role accountabilities include:

  • Performing engineering assessments of planning applications and preparing clear written reports and recommendations.
  • Evaluating building and plumbing applications engineering drawings final survey plans strata plans and associated documents.
  • Providing engineering advice to applicants professionals internal stakeholders and the public.
  • Liaising across City of Hobart networks to ensure consistency in applying standards and statutory requirements.
  • Supporting timely and compliant assessments aligned with statutory timeframes.
  • Contributing positively to team culture through effective communication and collaboration.

About you

About you

You are an experienced developmentfocused engineer who thrives in an environment where technical accuracy professional judgement and stakeholder engagement are essential. You bring strong analytical skills a solutionsfocused mindset and the ability to communicate complex engineering requirements clearly to a wide audience.

You will also bring:

  • Significant experience in development assessment within Local Government or a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of planning schemes engineering standards legislation regulations and codes relevant to land development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and problemsolving capabilities.
  • A collaborative approach that reflects the City of Hobarts organisational values.

Qualifications and licences:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (or relevant qualifications/experience).
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience in statutory planning assessments.
