The Position: The Dean serves as the chief operating and academic officer of the College of Ethnic Studies andis responsible forcreating and sustaining an environment where innovation and excellence is pursued by faculty staff and clear and sustained commitment to student faculty and staff successful candidate willdemonstratean approach that promotes innovation in supporting the Collegesdepartments and programs creating new opportunities for teaching learning and research and reaching new student that context the Dean will seek opportunities that forge new methods and approaches that increase new and exciting opportunities for concert with the Provostand other university administrators the Deanparticipatesin developing policy and strategic planning that improves the College university and greater community. To support the growth and success of the College the Dean builds community partnerships seeks broad-based support from external agencies and plays a leadership role in fundraising and development. |
Required Qualifications & Experience: An earned doctorateor terminal degreeinEthnic Studies or related academic discipline with a demonstrated record in teaching research and/or service in Ethnic effective teachingscholarshipandservice thatwarrantsan appointment at the rank of tenured full professorat Cal State LA. Atleast three years of experience in academic leadership and administration. Ability to act decisively under stressful situations. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. California State University Los Angeles as part of the CSU system is a State of California Employer. As such the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California. As of January 1 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California. |

A clear understanding of leading-edge methods and instructional technologies that support teaching in a large diverse urban public university.A demonstrated record of organizing for institutional change rooted in Ethnic Studies success in: growing enrollments strengthening retention and graduation rates enhancing student advising improving student success and reaching new student audiences; supporting faculty development and success in teaching mentoring research scholarship and creative activities; and supporting staff well-being and professional growth. Demonstrated success in developing innovative academic programs that proactively address evolving student priorities interdisciplinary trends and professional demands. Demonstrated success in supporting alumni relations and cultivating philanthropy external funding and development opportunities to advance the mission of the college and University. A demonstrated record of transparent decision-making in policyfinancial acumen and proven abilities in budgeting and fiscal management and experience managing large budgets in a complex organization. Superior written and oral communication to advance the mission and vision of the college. |
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $10106 - $32441/monthly. (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $17917 - $ 19583/monthly) A comprehensive benefits package is provided. |
Appointment: The Administrator IV appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan. This position is a designated position in the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. |
