Position Duties/Responsibilities

The primary job responsibilities of this position involve teaching courses in beginning intermediate and advanced French at the undergraduate level. However it is likely that the candidate will need to also teach additional courses outside of French language courses to maintain a full schedule. The candidate should have an interest in program development and should be willing to recruit advise and mentor students.


McNeese is a regional school with two graduate programs and many opportunities for committee work so faculty must be versatile and supportive. The Department of English and Foreign Languages aspires to create a diverse and inclusive community of scholars who promote reading and writing critically and carefully. The department celebrates those with a passion for teaching especially those embracing all levels of students. Candidates should possess the flexibility to teach a variety of courses throughout the work week.


Standard teaching load is 4/4 if the hired candidate holds a terminal degree.


The position requires an individual to teach 12 hours per semester in a physical classroom hold face-to-face office hours (10 hours per week) attend departmental and university meetings attend commencements and perform other duties to foster the department.

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Terminal degree in French or closely related field by date of appointment (ABD will be considered if there is sufficient evidence that the degree will be completed in a timely manner)
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Ability to teach courses in culture grammar and literature
  • Speaking and reading fluency in French

Preferred:

  • At least 18 hours of graduate coursework in a second language or in English language/literature
  • Experience in curriculum planning and course scheduling
  • Experience in recruitment and an enthusiasm for growing the program
  • Experience in scheduling/organizing undergraduate student organizations
