Within Grid Solutions the Power Transmission (PT) business is responsible for the development manufacturing sales and service of high- and medium-voltage products that help customers decarbonize the grid and expand electrification worldwide.
The role of the Primary Engineer (GIS/AIS) is to take full technical responsibility for the primary design of complex high voltage substations (30550kV) ensuring design quality compliance with applicable standards and technical feasibility. The position serves as a technical reference point supports strategic decision making oversees all engineering phases of the project lifecycle and contributes significantly to standardization efficiency improvements and technical excellence within the organization.
Job Description
Responsibilities and Scope of Work
Calculations & Technical Assessments
Selection of components based on analytical evaluations.
Preparation of technical reports and compliance documentation for customers and authorities.
Ensuring adherence to relevant standards (IEC IEEE EN DIN).
Execution or coordination of technical calculations studies and simulations.
Technical Expertise
Acting as the subjectmatter expert for primary technology.
Conducting design reviews approvals and plausibility checks.
Defining technical standards and best practices.
Preparing technical findings and contributing to rootcause analyses and lessons learned.
Strategy & Innovation
Development and validation of grounding concepts support structures and busbar configurations.
Integration of innovative technologies (e.g. SF₆free GIS hybrid solutions condition monitoring).
Identification of technical risks and optimization opportunities.
Supporting the standardization of layouts libraries and engineering methodologies.
Project & Customer Support
Technical support during commissioning testing FATs and onsite troubleshooting.
Serving as a technical contact for customers suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Participation in technical negotiations and customer meetings.
Supporting risk assessments claim management and preparation of technical proposals.
Knowledge Development & Coaching
Providing technical guidance mentoring and coaching to the engineering team.
Delivering internal training sessions and promoting knowledge sharing.
Building longterm expertise in GIS substation engineering within the organization.
Qualifications
Certified master craftsman technician or university degree in Electrical Engineering HighVoltage Engineering or Mechatronics; ideally with a Masters or Diploma degree.
Several years of professional experience in primary engineering of highvoltage substations including several years in GIS projects.
Strong knowledge of relevant standards (IEC 62271 IEC 60071 IEEE C37 EN DIN).
Experience in technical project leadership and in analytical/simulation tools (e.g. DIgSILENT PSCAD ETAP).
Proficiency with 3D CAD systems FEM tools and engineering databases.
Fluent English skills and good command of German for technical communication.
