The Forensic Program Forensic General Unit D (FGUD) is currently seeking a full-time temporary (until June 28 2026) Team Lead. The Team leader functions as a unit based clinical leader supports a nursing staff whilst also caring for a limited number of clients. Reporting to the Manager of LGUA the Team Leader works collaboratively with the CCR practice leadership group and the inter-professional staff. Team Lead supports the Unit Manager. The Team leader as part of the inter disciplinary team provides client centred care within a safe and secure environment which is supported by formal risk assessment and risk management that maximizes the individuals rehabilitation potential. The post holder would be responsible for day to day co-ordination of the primary nursing system ensuring the needs are appropriately assessed planned implemented and evaluated in accordance with best practice. The post holder has a key role in support of supervision and practice development of nursing staff within the unit ensuring that practice reflects the identified needs of the client/patient group.

The Team Leader plans coordinates and directs quality compassionate care by maintain CAMH and professional standards and creating a positive therapeutic relationship with clients/family and the inter-professional team to provide effective coordination of client/patient-centered care consistent with CAMHs vision and strategic directions. The Team Lead assumes responsibility for the communication liaison and coordination of client/patient admissions discharges transfers and appointments during the assigned shifts and for future shifts as appropriate. The successful candidate will facilitate service delivery ensuring a high standard of quality and safety. The Team Lead will ensure that the nurse/patient assignment is clear and reflects the principles of accountability for care also ensuring that client/patient assignments are accurate and properly recorded as per established unit processes and CAMH standards. The Team Lead will coordinate and assign breaks break coverage close observations and client appointments/activities off the unit for relevant staff; continuously monitoring and assessing unit needs based on the unit milieu and advocating in the moment for change in the staffing complement due to changing unit needs.

You will link new staff including Nursing Resources Unit staff new graduate nurses and agency staff with appropriate unit resources and facilitate orientation to the unit ensuring they become familiar with unit procedures/processes. You will coordinate and/or assign in collaboration with clinical supervisors/preceptors an appropriate CAMH unit staff to assist students of all disciplines educating them on unit procedures and to assist with client/patient care issues. The Team Lead will collaborate with the manager regarding staff participation in off-unit meetings/ training educational events such as Nursing Practice Council Education Rounds and facilitate participation by assigning nursing coverage for clients taking into account unit acuity and needs of orienting other staff. You will coordinate unit clinical rounds/forums (e.g. team huddles patient safety rounds unit debriefs etc.) and care conferences as appropriate or applicable.

The Team Lead will ensure that client observations & DASA are done as appropriate shift reports are conducted using SBAR as per CAMH standards. You will also facilitate communication within the unit and between the unit and other service areas as appropriate. You will ensure that the census/unit reports are accurate and timely submit the bed flow reports transfer of care report F-ULOA reports and other relevant reports as required. The Team Lead may carry a reduced patient assignment as dependent on the unit milieu census and staffing complement and be assigned other duties/tasks as required. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. At least two years (or 3900 hours) of clinical experience within the mental health and addictions field is preferred; with a particular focus on Forensic Mental Health Nursing. The successful candidate will possess proficiency and leadership in problem-solving decision-making conflict resolution negotiation communication delegation critical thinking team building and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will possess the ability to think at a program-level and participate in unit-level as well as organization-wide change initiatives. The individual will demonstrate clear understanding of the organizational goals good clinical and environmental risk management problem solving skills promote adherence to established protocols policies and procedures communicate effectively with the team including management both verbally and in writing; have knowledge of the roles of interdisciplinary team members their professional responsibilities and areas of expertise. Demonstrated expertise in maintaining a culture of safety for staff clients/patient families and visitors according to CAMH and regulatory standards is critical. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

PleaseNote: This full-time temporary (until June 28 2026)position is a 1.0 commitment which may be subject to change as per the Collective Agreement. Additional hours may be available based on operational needs. This position is part of the ONA Bargaining Unit.
