Organizational Setting

Monitoring and Enhancement of Remote Sensing for National Forest Inventory (MERANTI) is a threeyear project funded by Norway and managed by the FAO Office in Jakarta. It serves as Indonesias new National Forest Inventory (NFI) initiative integrating enhanced landmonitoring approaches to improve the accuracy availability transparency and timeliness of forest and treeresource data. Through the combination of a strengthened NFI and an improved national forest monitoring system MERANTI aims to significantly enhance Indonesias capacity to generate highquality forest information. This strengthened data ecosystem will:
national strategic planning and decisionmaking on forests and trees
climate change mitigation efforts
greater access to scalable climate finance
Indonesias position in climatefinance negotiations
opportunities for resultsbased payments (RBPs) and other forms of resultsbased contributions (RBC)
fulfilment of Indonesias international commitments to global climate and sustainable development goals
The collaboration will also expand to other projects and programmes related to forest monitoring including the UK-funded AIM4Forests initiative and affiliated programmes within the FAO portfolio and pipeline as appropriate.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall managerial administrative leadership of the FAO Representative in Indonesia the general supervision of the FAO UN-REDD Programme Coordinator and the direct supervision of the National Forest Monitoring Project Coordinator the National Project Specialist will have the following key functions:
coordination between FAO Directorate General of Forestry Planning/IPSDH and other agencies and partners in the project for effective delivery of project results and outputs and the achievement of outcomes
the implementation of the project approach and all project activities with a view on long term sustainability and institutionalization of the National Forest Monitoring System
and reporting on progress of project implementation
logistical and operational support for meetings workshops and field activities.

Tasks and responsibilities

Support coordination and facilitate participation of all relevant stakeholders including collaboration with the Directorate General of Forestry Planning/IPSDH the National Project Director (NPD) and IPSDH technical staff.
Ensure availability and integration of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) data.
Maintain collaboration with FAO Country Office in Jakarta and the project team for timely and effective delivery.
Support the implementation of project workplans budgets and reports.
Monitor project progress (physical and financial) and ensure data availability for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E).
Facilitate and arrange consultations and meetings to secure inputs from partners and stakeholders.
Support knowledge sharing documentation and publication of project outputs.
Support the work of national and international consultants including operational arrangements meetings and review of reports and workplans.
Establish and maintain effective contacts with host governments civil society and non-governmental stakeholders.
Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by FAO in coordination with the Forestry project team.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

Postgraduate degree in Forestry Environmental Science Natural Resource Management Geography or a closely related field. A Bachelors degree in a relevant field may be considered in lieu of a postgraduate degree.
At least 5 years of professional experience for candidates holding a postgraduate degree or at least 8 years of professional experience for candidates holding a Bachelors degree in coordinating programmes and projects in natural resource management environmental conservation or closely related areas.
Nationals of Indonesia
Working knowledge of English and Indonesian language written and spoken is required.
