The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) is seeking a confident people-focused Range Manager to lead daily operations at the Ben Avery Shooting Facilitys Clay Target Center one of the largest and most respected public shooting complexes in the nation. What Youll Do
As the day-to-day manager of the Ben Avery Clay Target Center you will:
Lead and inspire a diverse team of supervisors range masters range assistants and volunteers through coaching development and accountability
Set the standard for safety and professionalism ensuring strict adherence to range rules BMPs and health and safety protocols
Oversee daily operations including staffing customer experience facility maintenance user groups and emergency coordination
Manage an annual operating budget including program income construction and maintenance projects and business planning
Build strong partnerships with shooting sports organizations volunteers contractors NGOs and other government agencies
Handle complex customer employee and stakeholder issues with professionalism and sound judgment
Develop staff for long-term success identifying training needs and creating growth opportunities
Support AZGFDs broader mission by ensuring the Clay Target Center remains a model of safe accessible and sustainable shooting sports recreation

Job Duties:

The Range Manager serves as the day to day manager of the Ben Avery Clay Target Center (CTC). Supervises coaches develops engages employees and conducts other employee relation activities. Directly supervises the CTC supervisor range masters and range assistants and indirectly additional range masters and volunteers. Oversees an annual operational budget and includes program income. Responsible for the review development implementation and adherence of policies and procedures range rules BMPS and other processes for employee and customer health and safety.

Major responsibilities include:

Responsible for the day to day operations of the Ben Avery CTC including management of staff customer service ensuring adequate staff levels to meet customer needs facility maintenance user groups emergency situation coordination Gemba Walks and other administrative functions. Reviews develops implements and ensures adherence of policies and procedures range rules BMPS and other processes for employee and customer health and safety.

Conducts all processes related to direct supervision of the CTC Supervisor range masters I/II/seniors and range assistants including hiring 1:1s annual performance reviews coaching discipline and other employee relation needs. Indirect supervision of additional range masters I/II/Seniors and volunteers.

Oversees an annual operational budget of which includes program income construction projects range landscaping needs facility maintenance user groups and management of a volunteer cadre. Responsible for and assists in developing business goals and metrics customer service and experience objectives budgets and requests CMS grant objects and compliance business strategy implementation and project prioritization.

Develop employees by identifying needs providing necessary training or learning opportunities to meet the requirements of their current duties while continuing to provide growth opportunities for their current position or future aspirations.

Handles and resolves customer complaints ADA accommodations requests and needs employee volunteer vendor camp hosts user group and other customer conflicts issues and problems.

Provides assistance in the coordination and management of the CTC volunteer program user groups contractors and vendors along with building relationships with other Government Agencies NGOs and businesses for continued shooting sports growth.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate will have knowledge of and/or in: contemporary principles and practices of effective administration and business management; recreational facility management including operations cash handling marketing safety and health compliance; shooting sports hunter education and firearms safety/education programs and information; policy and procedure development; customer service; budget administration; public relations techniques; basic security measures; state laws commission rules and orders department policies and procedures; emergency response procedures; basic first aid/first responder. The candidate will be skilled in: written and oral communications; interpersonal relations in dealing with the public and conflict resolution; leadership; supervision; delegation; customer service techniques and relations.

Selective Preference(s):

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelors degree in business or public administration or business or recreation management.
Equivalent experience gained through supervisory and management budget administration and program management may substitute for the degree.
Experience in shooting range management operations and development hunting and shooting sports related activities and outdoor recreation management is a plus.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current valid Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance card issued in their name.
Employment may be contingent upon completion of a baseline blood lead level and a baseline hearing test both which will be conducted on an annual basis.
Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current valid state-issued drivers license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training in accordance with Arizona Administrative Code R.12.
