Across our 60 locations we provide programs in a variety of service areas including workforce development children youth families seniors and homeless prevention.
BronxWorks Afterschool offers high quality programs that have a strong balance of academics recreation enrichment and cultural activities to support and strengthen the overall development of youths. BronxWorks Afterschool aims to help young people build skills to support their academic achievement raise their confidence and cultivate their leadership skills through service learning and other civic engagement opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Createasafewelcomingandnurturingenvironmentforstudents.
- Serveasapositiverolemodelthatpromotespositiverelationshipseffectiveandopen communication respect collaboration as well as personal and academic growth.
- Workwiththeteamtocreateanurturingandsupportiveenvironmentfortheyouth.
- Implementvariousrecreationaleducationalsocialandteambuildingactivities.
- Superviseparticipantsbyprovidingclassroommanagementandinstruction.
- Attendstaffmeetingstrainingsessionsandprofessionaldevelopmentworkshops.
- MeetmonthlyProgramCoordinatorforsupervision.
- Performadditionaldutiesasassigned.
- Meetmonthlywithprogramcoordinatorand/orprogramdirectorforsupervision.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
PROGAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developandimplementacademicallyage-appropriatelessonplans.
- Facilitateprojectbased/handsonlearningactivities.
- MeetregularlywiththeEducationalCoordinatorforsupervisionandprofessional development.
- Chaperone participants on trips (day and overnight) activities will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A HighSchoolDiplomaorHighSchoolEquivalencyDiplomarequired.
- Completionofsomecollegecourseworkispreferredparticularlyinthefieldsofeducation social work and other related areas.
- One year (preferred)directexperienceworkingwithchildrenunder13yearsofageyouthin an educational recreational or community center setting preferred.
- Flexibilityandcomfortabilitytakinginitiativeworkinginagrouporindependently.
- Genuinedesiretoworkwithchildrenandabilitytochaperonetripsoffsitewhileutilizing community resources to enhance the program and experience for participants.
- Be a least 18 years oldand able to work a temporary part-timeposition.
- Abilitytoconnecteffectivelywithstudentsandparentsofdiversebackgrounds.
- Abilitydevelopingandfacilitatinglessonplansandastrongunderstandingoftheyouth development principles.
- Strongoralandwrittencommunicationtimemanagementandorganizationalskillsare necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Abilitytouseacomputerforprolongedperiods.
- Abilitytooccasionallyliftand/ormoveupto10pounds.
- Abilitytostandwalkorsitforlongperiodsoftimeorclimbfive flightsofstairs ifrequired to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
- Abilitytobendandretrieveobjectsand/ordocuments.
- AbilitytotravelintheboroughsofNewYorkCityanditsadjacentcountiesviapublic transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather including inclement weather if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
