Purpose of Job
A hands-on Air Conditioning engineer is required to ensure all environmental conditions are maintained at all times with regard to critical building systems. To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) reactive and breakdown works to all AC units within the site. Engineer must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge of Chillers CRAC units Split A/C units VRVs and VRFs FCUs and AHUs or equivalent which will include the ability to fault find using the production of graphical information and the utilisation of current alarm data. The AC role is critical to contract support and assurance of plant availability at all times along with statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair AC units across multiple sites within agreed timeframes.
- Attend reactive call outs as required.
- Undertake proactive maintenance tasks identified across the account.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety processes and report any breaches.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on all AC plant to site schedules and asset lists.
- Complete reactive tasks and proactively identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain all logbooks and F-Gas registers in line with legal requirements.
- Ensure spare parts are available and provide parts lists and timescales for remedial works.
- Work overtime when required.
- Complete all paperwork and F-Gas records promptly for PPM reactive and breakdown work.
- Prepare and use dynamic risk assessments for all tasks.
- Build strong working relationships with BGIS colleagues subcontractors and clients.
- Maintain a safe working environment including correct use of uniform and PPE.
- Present a professional image of BGIS at all times.
- Undertake lone working when required following appropriate training.
- Complete all assigned tasks in line with Health & Safety requirements.
- Maintain compliance with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
- Fulfil out-of-hours call-out rota obligations.
- Carry out any other tasks requested by the division management team.
- Ensure site engineering teams produce near-miss reports risk assessments and detailed records escalating issues when needed.
- Ensure company-issued tools are PAT-tested certified and logged.
- Ensure specialist meters are fully certified and compliant with regulations.
- Estimate time and materials for tasks and support the Client Supervisor with quotation details.
- Read and understand risk assessments method statements and the full scope of the safe system of work before starting tasks.
Key Specifications
Education
- NVQ or City & Guilds Level 2 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Level 3 preferred).
- Fully qualified F-Gas Engineer (C&G 2079 Category 1).
- Good written and spoken English and basic Maths skills.
Training
- Fully trained and qualified F-Gas engineer (2079 CAT I)
- Formally trained in an Electrical / Mechanical/ Air conditioning Refrigeration discipline.
Experience (Essential)
- Experience of fault finding maintaining and repairing all different types of A/Cs (Chillers CRAC units DX units Split A/C units FCUs or equivalent).
- Mechanical and electrical equipment to clearly defined criteria.
- Experience of working in the corporate sector and critical environments /data centres.
Aptitudes
- Good verbal communication skills good written English skills.
Character:

- Calm manner able to work under pressure. Able to make sound decisions when needed.
- Physically fit and able to carry tools and components by hand up to 20kg.
- Able to ascend and descend vertical access equipment. Able to work at heights.
