  • Clearance Requirements: Tier 1 Background Investigation (Standard Form 85).
  • Type of Employment: Part-Time no more than 20 hours per week or as needed. Hours will not exceed 864 per year.
  • Period of Performance: 16 February 2026 to 15 February 2027
  • Estimate Pay: $48.00 per hour.
  • Benefits: Health/Dental and Vision
  • Paid Time Off: Up to 80 hours per year which starts accruing on the day of hire.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year which starts occurring on the day of hire.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Background

The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (C-EB) School is centrally located within the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Reservation. The C-EB school serves approximately 1200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade and is fully accredited by the State of South Dakota. It is a federally operated school under the Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Education and is responsible for providing high-quality general education and Special Education programming. There are approximately 72 students currently receiving Occupational Therapy services

The Occupational Therapist will provide support to special education students as required through their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004.

Working Hours

The working hours for the Occupational Therapist will be 8:00 am 5:00 pm Central Time 2-3 days per week 8 hours per day for the 36-week school year (16 February 2026 to 15 February 2027). Working days excluded Federal holidays school closure due to inclement weather or emergencies and scheduled school closures. Work will Not Exceed the end of the school year on 15 February 2027.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Masters or higher degree in Occupational Therapy.
    • Individuals must be a graduate of a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations.
    • This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution). ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Must possess a full current and unrestricted state license to practice occupational therapy in a state territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico) or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must possess a current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Must possess at least (2) two years of experience practicing as an Occupational Therapist
  • preferably in a school setting.
  • Must be well-versed in the State of South Dakota and Federal Special Education laws rules regulations and eligibility requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Occupational Therapists (OTs) will practice independently and are responsible for the comprehensive assessment of functional and occupational roles using standardized and non-standardized evaluation tools. The OT embraces evidence-based practice standards in diagnosis examination management intervention treatment and outcome measurement. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Perform student evaluations.
  • Complete all evaluations within established State and Federal timelines.
  • Individual student therapy must be consistently provided based on individual student needs.
  • Provides the equipment materials instruction encouragement or counseling necessary to promote performance and improvement.
  • Attend the special education eligibility meetings and individual education plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with the Special Education Coordinator/School Supervisor school staff students and parents.
  • Upon notification from the school the information shall be available for consultation when on-site.
  • Provide ongoing therapy to special education students currently in treatment as identified by their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluations as designated by Special Education.
  • Coordinator/School Supervisor within both the State of South Dakota and the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) established timelines.
  • Maintain Individual Education Plans according to the Local and State regulations.
  • Consultation with Teacher Assistance Team/problem-solving team as requested by Special Education Coordinator/School Supervisor
  • Provide prompt completion and delivery of evaluation reports within established timelines with both BIE and the State of South Dakota.
  • If requested shall attend all initial eligibility meetings to review evaluation results with parents and staff.
  • Provide on-site training to school staff and/or parents on topics related to the area of expertise upon request from the Special Education Coordinator/School Supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in trainings and workshops requested by the Special Education Coordinator/School Supervisor pending schedule and availability.
  • Recommend therapeutic equipment to be used with individual students based on individual student therapy needs.
  • Upon request meet with parents and provide additional resources available within the State of South Dakota and the Bureau of Indian Education.
  • Utilize the Zones of Regulation curriculum to assist students in better regulating their actions.
  • The therapists will provide direct therapy services in one-to-one situations group therapy if needed and/or in inclusive classrooms.
  • Develop positive working relationships with students staff and parents.
