THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT-FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL DECEMBER 31 2026 (25 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Term Research Technician 2 participates in an ongoing research project focusing on cardiovascular research in the Physiology department at the UT Health Science Center.



Responsibilities
  1. Performs a wide range of cell culture and animal experiments.

  2. Handles and maintains mouse colonies performs echocardiography and harvests organs and tissues.

  3. Learns cell culture techniques to maintain cells.

  4. Conducts experiments in the cultured cell.

  5. Prepares RNA/DNA samples.

  6. Conducts expression studies using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR).

  7. Manages the organization of supplies.

  8. Assists students and fellows with different assays.

  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:Bachelors Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: ORa combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years. (Prior experience in biochemical assays and mouse tissue harvesting preferred.)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge in the area of cardiovascular diseases drug administration and tissue collection.
  • Skill in performing biochemical and molecular assays.
  • Skill performing data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of hygiene techniques to help maintain cell cultures.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to workweekends.
