Description

The Service & Team:

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a full time Senior Environmental Protection Officer in the Environmental Protection team in Regulatory Services (Public Protection). The team seeks to protect and improve the environment for the residents of Cornwall by enacting Environmental Protection legislation and developing and delivering policy.

The Role:

The role holder will be responsible for undertaking a range of specialist duties across the county including leading projects proactively managing their own case load and acting as the specialist in a key area of Environmental Protection legislation Such key areas include the very broad statutory elements of Environmental Protection:

Noise and Statutory Nuisance
Air Quality
Contaminated Land
Private Water Supplies
Pollution Prevention Control (Environmental Permitting)
Public Health: Exhumations and Public Health Funerals Filthy and verminous premises & pest control
Providing technical advice to inform Planning and Licensing decisions

The role holder will be a source of technical expertise for the team and be responsible for providing an effective and comprehensive customer-focused and sustainable service in accordance with legislative requirements and agreed Service standards.

Initially you will provide expertise to the noise and nuisance function but there will an expectation and opportunity to diversify your skill set so that you can support the team and wider service to be more resilient in future. You must be a team player and enjoy new challenges often working to tight deadlines. Cornwall Council offers a flexible working pattern and your work will involve travelling around Cornwall as well as out of county and you may need to work outside normal office hours to meet or work with our customers.

This is a public/customer-facing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

Working Pattern:

This is position is full time 37 Hours a week. flexible working options are available in this role such as compressed hours and hybrid work arrangements.

What youll need to succeed:

You will be educated to degree level in Environmental Health or environmental related subject equivalent qualification (or antecedents) or working towards this. Experience in the field of environmental protection is essential.
