Department Summary

Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to infants toddlers and preschool children in Lane County. Over 1700 children who have developmental delays or disabilities are served each year.

Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation parent-toddler groups specialized preschools consultation with children in community preschools or childcare and speech physical or occupational therapy.

Staff who work for Early Childhood CARES have teaching licenses or state authorization to teach young children. They are specialists in early intervention/early childhood special education speech therapy physical therapy autism and behavior.

Position Summary

Early Childhood CARES is seeking to hire up to 2 pro tem Physical Therapists to fill a temporary vacancy beginning in mid-October 2024 for approximately 4-6 months. FTE (appointment %) is negotiable.

Physical Therapists at Early Childhood CARES teach young children (birth to five years old) or provide consultation concerning children with a variety of developmental disabilities and sensory impairments in classrooms in homes and in community settings. This position will also provide direct physical therapy to young children as specified on the childs Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Physical Therapist Pro Tem faculty positions are non-tenure-track temporary positions.

Additional Expectations of the Position:
This position involves working in homes preschools and clinic situations. Employees must be able to travel to locations throughout Lane County that may not be serviced by public transportation.
Ability to interact effectively with children while providing instruction including bending kneeling or sitting at child-size tables and chairs.
Positions require enrollment in the Central Background Registry.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in Physical Therapy.
Valid Oregon license for Physical Therapy.

Professional Competencies

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students staff and community populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching preschool-age children (birth to five years) with a range of special needs.
Bilingual individuals preferred.
Experience teaching children with autism challenging behaviors and/or multiple disabilities.
Experience with infants.
Experience in providing instruction consultation and support to community programs to assist the integration of children with special needs into their programs.
Experience in developing and monitoring Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
Experience with assessing and monitoring child development with children birth to five years.
Experience providing instruction and consultation to parents of children with special needs including making home visits.
Experience with developing and implementing behavior management strategies that are age appropriate and effective.
Experience with a variety of instructional methodologies.
Experience with setting up and managing toddler and/or preschool classrooms.
