The Opportunity
The Corporate Services Divisions Records Management team requires a student for the summer of 2026. Working closely with and under the supervision of the departments Records Analyst the student will gain practical experience and knowledge of working in a provincial records management environment.
This includes assisting in the ongoing development and implementation of STAR/STOR policies procedures and standards of the records management program and Build Nova Scotia. The Records Management Student will also support and develop experience in record life-cycle activities through aiding in the ongoing classification retention and disposition of both physical and digital records across the organization.

Under the general supervision of the Records Analyst Corporate Services as the summer student responsibilities will include:
Accurately enter data records into the agencys records management system.
Checks work to ensure complete and accurate to minimize errors and duplication.
Classify agency records according to the approved records retention schedules STAR/STOR.
Review inventory and prepare records for off-site storage and/or final disposition.
Search and retrieve files for agency staff on request and return files to the system in a timely fashion.
Use scanning equipment to digitize documents and other media records.
Upload records to specific electronic storage areas.
Complete other inventory or process improvement tasks as required.
What youll need
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is currently enrolled in a records management information management archives or library program and returning to school in the fall 2026. Students enrolled in other post-secondary programs are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail display strong organizational and analytical skills capacity to work under the pressure of deadlines and multiple competing priorities and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Familiarity with Microsoft Word Excel Adobe Acrobat Pro SharePoint and database programs is required.
Ability to lift heavy boxes weighing approximately 25 - 30 pounds is a requirement in this role.
Knowledge of STAR/STOR or other record retention schedules and record classification systems is considered an asset.

Normal work week hours are 35 hours/week 7 hours/day.
Work setting is located within an in-office environment and off-site storage facility. Travel to off-site storage will be accommodated.
Location of work is in Halifax NS.
Additional Information
This opportunity will start approximately May 2026 with an end date of late August 2026.
The hourly rate of pay varies depending on completed educational level.
