The Parent Support Worker will assist the Maternal Child Health Program by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and families with infants and young children by focusing on culture role-modeling and healthy teachings by linking community resources. About the position: Working 7.5 - hour shifts (Overtime may be required). S/he will provide in-home support such as basic infant care infant stimulation fostering healthy child development self-care and coping as a parent offering hands-on approach to learning and supportive mentoring as a peer. Advocate refer and act as a liaison for families. Work closely with Health Care Professionals and working with the Public Health Nursing & Health Team to provide and deliver programs and services.

Duties:
In-home support utilizing a strength-based model with families who have children between the ages of 0-6 years;
Teach individuals and group about health promotion topics;
Assist the Community Health Nurse to provide and deliver programs and services;
Advocate refer and act as a liaison for families;
Work closely with other Health Care Professionals;
planning and delivering workshops community education events;
Developing of appropriate awareness materials; administering the nutrition coupon program;

Qualifications:
Early Childhood Education Certificate (Combination of Education and experience may be considered);
Growing Great Kids (GGK) Curriculum training is an asset or willing to obtain;
Certified First Aide & CPR and Safe Food Handling Certificate required or willing to obtain;
Personal experience as a parent or caregiver of infants &/or young children is an asset;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Able to work independently be self-directed and demonstrate organizational skills;
The ability to speak/understand Cree a definite asset;
Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License;
Experience working with First Nations Communities an asset;
