Job Summary

Mater Pharmacy is seeking applications for Senior Pharmacy Technicians to join us in a permanent full-time role.

Based predominantly at our Springfield campus these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield opening early 2026. As Maters first new public hospital in over 60 years this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds ICU maternity emergency and surgical services its set to care for over 200000 patients annually.

Mater Pharmacy will provide a clinical service to all inpatient areas and outpatient clinics as well as serving the local communitys health needs so this represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of this community and to contribute to a strong unified inter-professional Clinical Services team at Mater.

Salary range: $38.01 - $41.57 per hour (OO4) plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15900access to many staff benefits!

What youll be doing

As aSenior Pharmacy Technician you will support the coordination and delivery of pharmacy services across Mater Health. Youll assist in managing daily operations ensuring timely and accurate supply of medications and maintaining efficient stock control and distribution processes. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives provide guidance to other technicians and work closely with pharmacists and clinical staff to ensure safe and effective medication management.

There are 2 focus areas that Senior Pharmacy Technicians will oversee:

  • Outpatient pharmacy and community services
  • Hospital services and pharmacy dispensary

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of consistent high-quality pharmacy services across various departments
  • Coordinating daily workflow to ensure timely and accurate dispensing distribution and stock management
  • Providing guidance and supervision to pharmacy technicians and support staff
  • Maintaining compliance with relevant legislation policies and quality standards
  • Assisting with training mentoring and performance support for junior team members
  • Liaising with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe and effective medication practices
  • Contributing to service improvement activities audits and procedural reviews
  • Upholding Maters Mission Vision and Values through professional compassionate and efficient service

This role will be based at our Springfield campus but there may be opportunity to train with and in future work in other Senior Technician roles at South Brisbane from time to time. Training will be provided and ongoing support is available within the on-site team and also Mater Pharmacy South Brisbane teams which include Inventory Management Clinical Trials Medicines Information Community Services and the Production Unit.

Our service to the hospitals is required 365 days per year so the role will include a share of evening public holiday and weekend shifts on a rostered basis.

About you

You are an experienced and proactive Pharmacy Technician with strong leadership communication and organisational skills. You take pride in mentoring others optimising workflows and ensuring high standards of accuracy and safety in all aspects of pharmacy thrive in a fast-paced environment enjoy problem-solving and are passionate about supporting quality patient care through efficient and reliable pharmacy services.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Commenced or completed a Certificate IV in Hospital or Community Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician including in a senior or leadership capacity
  • Strong knowledge of medication dispensing processes and stock management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across teams
  • Professional hardworking attitude and willing to work cooperatively and effectively with all team members
  • Proven ability to lead train and motivate team members
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Demonstrated initiative in improving systems processes and workflows
