Job/Department Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Custodial and Grounds the Supervisor of Grounds and Landscaping Services serves as a member of the leadership team sharing responsibilities for the day-to-day operations within the FMS department. The incumbent is responsible for scheduling and assigning projects conducting inspections and maintaining safety standards within the Grounds and Landscaping unit.

This position is responsible for the supervision of grounds/landscape personnel in a full range of grounds work including the planting cultivation fertilization and maintenance of lawns flowers trees shrubs and related grounds/landscape plantings and addition this position will plan develop implement and direct a program that involves the performance of professional landscape and horticultural duties and responsibilities; review of project plans/design; and inspection of projects for compliance with appropriate conjunction with the Manager of Custodial and Grounds the incumbent assists with the preparation of the operating budget and project time schedules for the Grounds and Landscaping Services unit.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in landscape architecture other landscape/grounds disciplines or closely related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience in the same.
AND
Three years of administrative experience working in landscape/grounds maintenance nursery or other landscape work in a large institutional or commercial setting or closely related discipline as well as three years experience supervising employees engaged in grounds maintenance nursery or landscape work or closely related discipline.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Supervisory experience in a Collective Bargaining environment
  • More than five years of administrative experience; or more than five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with large commercial irrigation systems including installation and maintenance repairs of irrigation lines and familiarity with smart irrigation controllers and software.
  • Experience with landscape construction or renovation projects.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55000 - $60000 per year. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected.

They are excluded from the collective bargaining process are not subject to probationary service and do not receive tenure or permanent status. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

The person holding this position is considered a Limited Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21 2017) as a condition of employment.

The duties of this position will include participation in a decision that may have a material/financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore this is a designated position under the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code and the incumbent will be required to file a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest and is subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. (Group/Category: Facilities Management and Services - Director Manager Lead (all levels) CAT 2)

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

Throughout employment in this position the incumbent must maintain a Qualified Applicators License. This will require the completion of 20 hours of qualified Continuing Education every two years. This training is supported by FMS.
