Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

In keeping with the Dignity Health core values perform diagnostic medical sonographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision to technical detail. Perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative. Assume responsibility for specific diagnostic Echocardiographic procedures as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Transfers and positions patients.
  • Performs Echocardiographic procedures in accordance with department standards and in keeping with the orders of the referring physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Echocardiographic protocols and the ability to accurately apply principles to work.
  • Interviews patients for pertinent medical history and obtains consents on patients prior to performing studies as required.
  • Uses sterile technique and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Orders and maintains supplies at an acceptable level in assigned area.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of cardiac or cardiovascular technology program.
  • Must have recent (within the last 6 months) hands on scanning experience either as an echocardiography student or as a sonographer.
  • A.S. degree and/or graduate of an accredited school of cardiac or cardiovascular technology program.
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years of experience in cardiac ultrasound procedures.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within 12 - months.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer CCI (RCS) within 12 - months.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR).

Preferred:

  • B.S. degree and/or graduate of an accredited school of cardiac or cardiovascular technology program.
  • Recent acute care experience performing cardiac ultrasound procedures.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echo (RDCSAE).

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Training:

Well versed in both general anatomy as well as physiology. Demonstrates knowledge of (must be familiar with) all Echocardiography procedures. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with patients staff and physicians. Work independently and be a functional team member in a team oriented environment. Self motivated and able to achieve results through good organizational skills.
