Job Summary

The State of South Carolina is looking for a Network Technician - Intermediate (Network Support Specialist)
Why is this position open: To augment our IT staff in the absence of an FTE position as our agency focuses on remediations and overall network improvements.

Will close to submissions on 02/11/2026 5:00PM EST.
Interview Process: Two Rounds Virtual
Duration of the Contract: 6 Months

Possibility for Extension: Yes
Work Location: Role is fully onsite
Candidate location: Candidate must be a CURRENT SC resident. No relocation allowed.

Additional Details: Candidate must have a VALID Drivers License in order to drive a State Vehicle to various locations within SC. Travel will be throughout the State but will never exceed a business day unless otherwise agreed upon and scheduled in advance.
Candidate should be comfortable with On-Call rotation every 3 weeks to respond to critical sites for network outages as needed.

Daily Duties / Responsibilities:

Key Duties

  • Help Desk & Ticket Management
    • Respond to and resolve help desk tickets related to:
      • Respond to Wired and wireless network issues
      • Network account onboarding and offboarding via custom scripts
      • Infrastructure-related incidents
  • On-Call Support Rotation
  • Level 1 Support: On-call every 3 weeks for critical site support (Network outages)
  • Level 2 Support: On-call every 3 weeks (alternating with Level 1) for escalated issues at critical sites
  • Infrastructure Projects
    • Assist in network rollouts upgrades and cleanup efforts
    • Participate in planning and execution of infrastructure improvements
    • Support documentation and inventory of network assets
  • Administrative & Technical Expertise
    • Provide support for Microsoft administrative tasks including:
      • Entra ID (Azure AD) management
      • Group policy and user provisioning
      • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Assist with server administration tasks including:
  • Basic Windows Server maintenance
  • Monitoring and performance tuning
  • Patch management and updates

Required Skills:

  • 5 Years of experience with Microsoft Entra ID
  • 5 Years of experience with Microsoft administration
  • 5 Years of experience with Windows Server environments
  • 10 Years of experience in troubleshooting skills in networking (wired AND wireless)
  • 5 Years of experience in customer service

preferred Skills:

  • Experience with wiring closets
  • Experience with Ruckus switches
  • Experience with Deskpro Ticketing System
  • Experience with Active Directory DNS and Group Policy

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

equivalent experience.
