About the Role:Capital Project Manager IV (CPM IV) roles oversee capital projects with the highest levels of complexity scale and riskfrom early planning through final addition to core project management responsibilities individuals in this classification may provide expert-level leadership in specialized fields such as urban planning architecture engineering landscape architecture or construction management.
CPM IVs often supervise or mentor other project managers lead large multidisciplinary teams of consultants and contractors and direct capital programs including oversight of program budgets and long-range planning. About the Team:The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) section provides strategic direction oversight and delivery of capital projects across the Parks system. This work includes planning designing developing and constructing the divisions capital portfolio; managing major repair and renovation projects systemwide; advancing regional trail development; and delivering new capital improvements throughout parks and open spaces. The CIP team also collects manages and stewards asset data for the Countys 32000-acre system of parks and trails.
The CIP Section consists of five units with different focus areas; however projects of all types are routinely performed by each unit as necessary and these positions could potentially support any of these units.
Construction Management: Project Managers in this unit typically but not exclusively manage the construction phase of large and complex projects with advertised construction contracts such as the Eastrail Wilburton Trestle Lake to Sound Trail and Trailhead Parking Areas as well as the in-house program for construction of small capital projects by King County Parks crews.
Regional Trails: Project Managers in this unit typically but not exclusively are licensed landscape architects who manage the design of complex multi-phase and multi-jurisdictional regional trail projects with Architectural and/or Engineering Consultant contracts (A/E contracts) including projects such as improvements to segments of Eastrail corridor Lake to Sound Trail Soos Creek Trail and others.
Engineering: Project Managers in this unit typically but not exclusively are licensed Professional Engineers or Engineers in Training who manage the design and construction of medium to large projects that are designed in-house or using A/E contracts and constructed utilizing advertised construction contracts such as fish passage improvements synthetic ballfield turf replacement stormwater and drainage rehabilitation regional trail repairs and safety improvements bridge and trestle repairs and rehabilitation parking lot rehabilitation and more.
Facilities and Asset Management: Project Managers in this unit are often but not exclusively licensed architects or professional engineers who manage the design and construction of small to large scale major maintenance and new construction projects related to facilities. They manage both in-house designs and A/E contracts delivering projects such as play areas aquatic centers community centers trailhead parking areas energy efficiency improvements infrastructure improvements ADA improvements restrooms picnic shelters operation and maintenance shops remediation projects and mitigation monitoring projects via advertised construction contracts.
Capital Planning: Project Managers in this unit manage the planning phase of capital projects including developing comprehensive park management plans conducting land use analysis for project feasibility coordinating property acquisition needs for projects coordinating capital work being done by other agencies on parks property leading project environmental review and compliance and more.

This requires the ability to travel to remote work locations with limited or no public transportation services and requires the ability to traverse rough terrain or construction sites which generally include uneven surfaces.

Work Location:The CIP team works in a hybrid model with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite locations are King Street Center 201 S. Jackson Seattle and project sites on Parks properties throughout King County.Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for public meetings (virtual or in-person) and construction site activities.
