Description of Work

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is currently accepting applications for a full-time Recreational Therapy Supervisor. This leadership role is responsible for enhancing residents quality of life through comprehensive assessment individualized planning and evidence-based recreational therapy services.

The Recreational Therapy Supervisor assesses residents leisure preferences and quality-of-life needs develops and evaluates individualized plans of care and determines appropriate services in accordance with professional recreational therapy standards.

This position supervises and manages a multidisciplinary Life Enrichment team including five Life Enrichment Specialists two Recreational Therapists and one Creative Expressive Arts Therapist. The supervisor provides staff with the training guidance and resources needed to deliver creative person-centered programming that supports each residents goals abilities and interests.

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience using creativity and person-centered approaches to adapt activities for residents with developmental and intellectual disabilities dementia and or other neurocognitive disorders.
  • Experience working as a direct supervisor for a team providing quality of life activities.
  • Considerable knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation principles philosophies assessments techniques and methods.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning organizing implementing and monitoring activities and programs ensuring they are person-centered and produce effective outcomes.

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Usual Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (varying hours for special events)

Flexibility is required for education and training purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.

ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision daily nursing care and assistance with activities of daily living.

    Licensed to practice Recreational Therapy by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure and two years of experience as a Recreational Therapist.

    Management Preference:
    Masters Degree in Recreational Therapy or related field
