The Post Graduate Counseling Fellowship position with Counseling Services at the Emerson Wellness Center offers clinical training in brief psychotherapy crisis intervention and community consultation. Under supervision the fellow will provide triage and intake assessment individual psychotherapy and crisis intervention for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in communications and the arts. The fellow will participate in all aspects of Counseling Services efforts to support the developmental and psychological growth of students including outreach activities ancillary and consultative work of Counseling Services across campus.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Provide individual psychological evaluation short-term psychotherapy crisis intervention referrals and case management to students with diverse backgrounds and life experiences who are experiencing psychological/emotional distress.

  • Provide emergency daytime coverage for students in acute crisis triage needs arrange outside administrative transport and medical/hospital intervention as needed; consult with involved professionals college staff and family or friends when indicated; follow all ethical legal and clinical standards of confidentiality.

  • Communicate regularly with center staff on clinical and administrative matters and enhance departmental collaboration and quality of care provided to students by attending scheduled clinical team meetings case conferences individual and group supervision and peer supervision as assigned.

  • Engage thoughtfully in individual (2x/week) and group (1x/week) supervision.

  • Participate in on-call rotation responding to after-hours emergencies.

  • Maintain appropriate clinical records by writing on-going case notes intake and termination summaries in accordance with Massachusetts state laws.

  • Provide outreach and programming offerings to the campus community including training of resident assistants crisis debriefings and workshops. Consult with campus professionals regarding student mental health and well-being. Some outreach programs may be scheduled evenings or weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

  • First year post graduate required
  • Holds an advanced degree from accredited institution (MSW MS LMHC) and is prepared to sit for initial licensing exam if appropriate required
  • Previous clinical experience conducting individual therapy and participating in clinical supervision required
  • -Experience in college or university mental health preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences preferred
  • Crisis Intervention experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES May be representative but not all-inclusive of those knowledge skills and abilities commonly associated with the job.

  • Advanced skills in assessment and clinical intervention

  • Experience conducting individual therapy and participating in clinical supervision

  • Ability to work closely with colleagues within the department as well as colleagues from other areas of the College

  • Interest in exploring a range of treatment modalities and approaches to treat the needs of a dynamic student population

  • Ability to complete paperwork in a clear and time efficient manner

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
