Job Summary

Title: High SchoolAssociate Principal

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:This position will perform responsibilities of anassociate principal as assigned by the high school principal. The associate principal is responsible for providing assistance to the principal in the administration of the total school program. The associate principal provides instructional leadership in the areas of curriculum and professional development. The associate principal is responsible for the safety and welfare of students and staff and assists the principal in meeting the mission of the school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Builds positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ensures that the school is in compliance with state and federal mandates
  • Seeks; listens with compassion understanding and empathy; and responds appropriately to suggestions concerns or inquiries
  • Assists the principal in managing the school
  • Communicates effectively the vision and mission of the school to staff parents students and community members
  • Relates assessment data to student learning and uses them to improve teaching and learning
  • Regularly monitors the school culture and progress.
  • Creates and maintains a clean safe and aesthetically pleasing school environment
  • Develops and ensures the use of student and staff handbooks
  • Possesses conflict mediation and consensus building skills
  • Generates enthusiasm and strives to persuade others to work together to accomplish common goals
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of content instructional practices and assessment
  • Incorporates the use of appropriate technology within all areas of job responsibilities
  • Assists in monitoring compliance of 504 plans and IEPs
  • Designs implements evaluates and refines curricular co-curricular and extra-curricular programs
  • Assists in making curriculum decisions how it is arranged and how it should be taught
  • Monitors the performance of assigned staff and follows district evaluation procedures
  • Promotes professional development that focuses on student learning
  • Supports an inclusive school environment that promotes academic achievement for all students
  • Makes frequent classroom observations
  • Monitors progress of student achievement
  • Assists faculty in interpreting test data
  • Creates a culture of high expectations for self students and staff
  • Makes effective use of available resources
  • Monitors the school improvement plan
  • Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate in the school
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up action
  • Assists the principal in coordinating transportation custodial cafeteria and other support services
  • Supervises the extracurricular activity program
  • Assists in conducting safety inspections and drills
  • Maintains discipline throughout the student body
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • Supports the Districts educational mission for all students and implements all Board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign

Qualification Requirements

Certificates/Licenses/Endorsements/Registrations

Kansas teaching license required

Kansas administrative license required

Building-level endorsement required

Education and/or Experience

Five years experience in teaching and/or administration required

Masters degree required

Language Skills

  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general educational reports professional journals technical procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.
  • Ability to write clearly; keep detailed records; effectively produce reports letters and memoranda; and to carry out complex tasks.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
