The Environmental Permitting Specialist is primarily responsible for managing environmental permitting and associated compliance for the Schluter Systems Plattsburgh NY facility and permitting efforts in Nevada Texas and South Carolina.
The Environmental Permitting Specialist manages environmental permitting activities for assigned projects with limited supervision serving as a key contributor. This role supports project development construction and operations by identifying permitting requirements preparing and submitting environmental permit applications and coordinating reviews and approvals with regulatory agencies. The Specialist ensures compliance with applicable federal state and local environmental regulations by tracking permit conditions supporting environmental reviews and advising project teams on regulatory risks and constraints.
Prepare and submit environmental permit applications.
Maintain records/documentation as required by environmental permits.
Prepare and submit all reporting associated with environmental permits.
Interpret and apply New York State Texas Nevada and South Carolina environmental laws and regulations.
Review project plans and design changes to assess permitting impacts.
Serve as primary point of contact with regulatory agencies and consultants.
Monitor regulatory changes and communicate implications to appropriate stakeholders.
Support other EH&S initiatives as necessary incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Periodic travel to other Schluter Systems facilities.
Work with various departments to implement processes to satisfy permit reporting requirements.
Provide guidance to departments on permit requirements.
Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with permits.
Working knowledge of federal state and local environmental regulations.
5 plus years experience with multimedia environmental permitting and compliance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Strong technical writing communication and organizational skills.
Experience working with regulatory agencies.
Bachelors degree in engineering environmental science or related field.
New York State licensed professional engineer.
Experience with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Regulations.
Experience with United States Environmental Protection Agency Regulations.
Experience with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Regulations.
Experience with Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Regulations.
Experience with South Carolina Department of Environmental Services Regulations.
Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
