Job Summary

Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA)

Classification: Certified

Salary: SLPA Salary Schedule

Description: Under the direction and supervision of the Speech and Language Pathologist the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing enhancing and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as but not limited to direct activities with students designed to develop pre-language and language skills oral-motor control for speech production vocalization and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or a Bachelors degree in Communication Sciences and
  • Valid SLPA license/certification from the states licensing
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Experience working with children preferably in a school or clinical
  • Previous experience as an SLPA is preferred but not
  • Strong understanding of speech and language
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
  • Proficiency in using technology and software for
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the SLP in implementing individualized treatment plans for students with speech language and communication
  • Perform speech-language
  • Provide therapy based on goals in the treatment
  • Collect tally and graph session
  • Schedule therapy
  • Select materials to use during treatment
  • Create lesson plans for upcoming treatment
  • Maintain accurate records and report observations to the supervising
  • Participate in IEP meetings (with supervising SLPs present) and work collaboratively with the educational team as
  • Maintain and organize therapy equipment and
  • Stay informed of best practices and new techniques in speech-language
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities as
  • Work collaboratively with SLP
  • Work collaboratively with teachers parents and other school staff to support student communication needs.
  • Work collaboratively with families/teachers on carryover
  • Bring new concerns and questions to supervising

Length of Employment:

  • 9 Months

Reports to: Speech Language Pathologist / Student Services Director

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy GDO
