The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
The Human Services Program Consultant I serves as a critical incident peer support specialist with primary shared responsibility for program development coordination implementation quality assurance and compliance with internal Standard Operating Procedures. This position provides advocacy and consultative services to identify and respond to the wellness and peer support needs of DAC staff. The position provides non-clinical counseling and serves as coordinator/liaison between stakeholders internal and external to the agency.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Ability to use research and technical writing skills to design plan implement and evaluate wellness programs and quality assurance protocols.
Ability to research analyze and interpret State and Federal laws and formulate these laws into policies and procedures related to the program area.
Ability to design and present training.
This position is a non-certified field based position with required frequent travel throughout the state. OC certification is not required but is optional.

About SHIELD
The S.H.I.E.L.D. section exists to improve the overall health and performance of the correctional workforce by providing confidential non-emergent support services to DAC staff. These include a combination of behavioral health and peer support initiatives focused on wellness to enhance professional and personal success.

Minimum Education and Experience

Masters degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience;
OR Bachelors degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience;
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
