Controller Construction Industry
Location: Sonoma County CA
A well-established construction company in Sonoma County is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader with strong construction industry experience who enjoys partnering with ownership and operations to support accurate reporting compliance and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP/AR payroll job costing general ledger and month-end close
Manage financial reporting including monthly quarterly and annual financial statements
Lead job cost accounting WIP reporting percentage-of-completion accounting and cost variance analysis
Ensure compliance with GAAP tax regulations and industry-specific requirements
Manage cash flow forecasting budgeting and financial planning
Coordinate with external partners including CPA firm auditors banks and bonding companies
Support project managers with financial insights cost controls and reporting
Develop and improve accounting processes internal controls and systems
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (CPA preferred but not required)
7 years of progressive accounting experience with direct experience in the construction industry
Strong knowledge of job costing WIP schedules and construction financial reporting
Experience working with construction accounting software (e.g. Sage Viewpoint Procore or similar)
Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams
Detail-oriented organized and able to work independently
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
