Job Summary:
North Yorkshire Council is seeking an experienced Practice Supervisor (Grade M) to join the Children & Young Peoples Service on an agency basis.
This role is based in Selby with occasional countywide travel required.
The position is to provide long-term sickness cover and will focus on supervising frontline social work practice with a strong emphasis on court work and care planning.
The role is inside IR35 and requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Provide practice supervision and oversight to social workers within Childrens Services.
Support and guide practitioners to ensure high-quality child-centred practice.
Oversee complex cases involving court proceedings child protection and looked after children.
Quality assure assessments care plans and court documentation.
Offer reflective supervision professional challenge and decision-making support.
Ensure compliance with statutory duties legislation and local authority procedures.
Support effective risk assessment and management across the team.
Contribute to permanency planning and care planning decisions.
Work collaboratively with partner agencies and senior managers.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to performance and service improvement.
Skills/Experience:
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
Significant experience within Childrens Services in a local authority setting.
Extensive experience of court work including oversight of statements and evidence.
Strong background in care planning and permanency planning.
Proven experience of practice supervision or mentoring social workers.
In-depth knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory guidance.
Strong leadership decision-making and professional judgement skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work from the office at least three days per week.
Willingness to travel countywide when required.
Additional Information:
Location: Selby District Council Selby (YO8 9FT).
Hours: 37 hours per week (09:0017:00).
Office attendance: Minimum 3 days per week.
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration. Significant experience within Childrens Services in a local authority setting.
