Senior Protection Design Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Protection Engineer to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for providing engineering expertise and leadership as well as scoping designing and estimating substation designs for both internal and external Network Services clients. The successful candidate will also lead the technical development of the Secondary Design team and implement appropriate policies and procedures related to distribution sub-transmission and transmission assets.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the successful completion of projects within specified timelines and contributes to achieving positive financial outcomes for Network Services.

Responsibilities

Engineering and Design Services

• Provide expert engineering design and advice for zone substations industrial substations and distributed generation network connections adhering to relevant standards technical manuals OH&S Act and Safety in Design guidelines.
• Continuously review and improve processes and systems to ensure high productivity efficiency and quality outcomes while considering safety technical commercial and environmental factors.
• Ensure all designs incorporate a whole of asset lifecycle approach.
• Take ownership of projects by liaising with internal and external stakeholders to produce formal responses and reports.
• Monitor review and approve engineering solutions proposals and manufacturer-supplied drawings to ensure compliance with agreed standards.
• Undertake non-prescribed engineering work including supervision and approval of designs.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in substation design including zone substations industrial substations and distributed generation network connections.
• Strong understanding of relevant technical standards OH&S regulations and Safety in Design principles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.

Day-to-Day

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver engineering solutions that meet project requirements.
• Oversee the design and estimation process for substation projects ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the Secondary Design team.
• Review and approve engineering designs and proposals to ensure quality and compliance.
• Continuously improve design processes and systems to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Prepare detailed reports and formal responses for stakeholders.
