This posting is for an Engineering Specialist I position in the Division 4 Halifax County District Engineers office. Serves as the Lead Project Inspector responsible for overseeing daily field inspection activities ensuring contractor compliance with project specifications plans and contract requirements. Leads and coordinates inspection teams documents construction progress and ensures work quality safety and adherence to all applicable standards. Performs advanced level technical inspection work and survey on large complex highway and bridge construction projects administered by the NCDOT. Work involves on-site inspection documentation material testing and quantity measurements of construction activities to ensure workmanship materials and methods comply with state and federal requirements. Provides technical leadership to lower-level technicians. Effective communication and leadership skills required. Ability to lead a team mentor and train others.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade: NC13 Salary Range: $48222.00 - $84388.00

Management prefers applicants with the following:

Experience in applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Knowledge of mathematical functions (such as algebra geometry and trigonometry)
Experience reading and interpreting construction plans contract provisions specifications and procedures
Experience in taking notes collecting field data and preparing routine reports

Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight (8) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
