Job Summary:

Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab or wet lab and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential wet hazards. Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals drugs or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

The Research Scientist will facilitate investigations of the molecular mechanisms governing cardiovascular disease within Dr. Timothy McKinseys laboratory in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus in Aurora CO. This research team has NIH support and is entirely dedicated to translating basic science discoveries into new therapies for patients with cardiovascular disease.

The Research Scientist will oversee the operational management of a high-performing research program and will provide key assistance with bench-based experiments. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working as part of a tightknit team to push cutting edge science forward. The person in this position will ensure research goals are met with the highest standards of quality efficiency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee laboratory operations including purchasing vendor coordination and tracking expenditures to ensure cost-effective use of resources

• Manage procurement workflows for consumables reagents laboratory stock and large capital equipment including installation maintenance and service contracts

• Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and equipment to support uninterrupted research activities

• Coordinate facilities-related needs by initiating and tracking work orders for building maintenance general housekeeping and floor care

• Develop implement and enforce laboratory SOPs including safety compliance and quality control procedures

• Assist with designing planning and executing laboratory experiments as a research scientist ensuring rigorous methodology and reproducible results

• Analyze interpret and document experimental data; contribute to manuscripts presentations and grant applications

• Support strategic planning for the labs research direction infrastructure needs and budget priorities

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Entry level:

• Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field

• A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate level:

• Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field.

• A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis

• One (1) year professional level research experience

Senior Level:

• Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field

• A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year for year basis.

• Two (2) years professional level research experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field

• Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques

• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

• Outstanding customer service skills

• Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion

• Knowledge of basic human anatomy physiology medical terminology

• Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE

• Entry level: $46274to $53861

• Intermediate level: $50357 to $64054

• Senior Level:$54440 to $69248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
