Job Summary

Summary

Kansas City VA is recruiting Registered Nurse Transition to Practice (RNTTP) Program Residents. The focal point of this program is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. The RNTTP Resident serves in this role over the course of a 12-month period.


Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and will remain on file through December 31 2026. Eligible applicants will be reviewed and referred bi-weekly starting 01/30/2026 as vacancies occur or on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.

The major duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse Transition-to-Practice includes but are not limited to:

  • Delivering fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills and competent practice while providing care to clients.
  • Assessing planning implementing and evaluating care based on age-specific components.
  • Assuming responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education self-management and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administering medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Completing orientation according to expected standards.
  • Working with close supervision is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and seeks direction from others as needed.
  • Managing workload as assigned organizes and completes own assignments in an efficient and appropriate manner
  • Establishing a therapeutic relationship allowing the patient to attain maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment.
  • Engaging patients families and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge values and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination.

  • Participating in the development implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary care.
  • Demonstrating positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers.

  • Incorporating patient preferences into shared care delivery decisions.

Pay: Competitive salary regular salary increases potential for performance awards

Requirements

Conditions of employment

    • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
    • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
    • Subject to background/security investigation.

    • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
    • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

    Basic Requirements:


    Grade Determinations: The following Scope Education and Dimension criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates and if appropriate the level within a grade. The Dimension requirements (Practice Veteran/Patient Driven Care Leadership Professional Development and Evidence-Based Practice/Research) are detailed for each grade and level within the online assessment: I Level IDelivers fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies.An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing with no additional professional nursing required.Nurse I Level IIDemonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts cognitive skills and technically competent practice in providing care to clients with basic or complex.A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional professional nursing experience required.*Note: Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees.

    Experience Requirement: Must have less than 12 months of RN experience
