- Perform a variety of journey level preservation work using a variety of materials and tools.
- Construct/fabricate cabinetry furniture and replicate/install historic fabrics.
- Construct and rehabilitate wood framed structures furnishings and accessories primarily within the historical and architectural aspects within all-building offices museums visitor centers and workshops.
- Perform carpentry work and preservation elements such as structural framing rafters doors windows reconstruct restore or rehabilitate floors staircases trusses and beams reconstruct restore or rehabilitate interior and exterior trim and roofing etc.
- Maintain repair construct and rebuild of a variety of surfaces and structures of brick block stone lime based mortar and other related materials such as partitions walls walkways foundations etc.

Physical Demands: The incumbent performs work at construction sites. There is considerable physical exertion related to actions such as lifting pushing pulling or carrying objects of various sizes weights and shapes. Because of the multi-faceted craft aspects of this position work is frequently performed under structures which requires the incumbent to work overhead or in a stretched cramped or awkward position. Fieldwork magnifies the physical effort required to perform the duties of this position and reflect actual restoration project environments. Incumbent is required to perform craftsman work in the investigation of historic structures and in working with other employees in restoration techniques. Inspections may require working in cramped close quarters underneath structures or on rooftops several hundred feet above ground level. The incumbent occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh 50 pounds or more. Backcountry work may require the incumbent to hike or ride by horseback to the job site in remote locations over rough terrain.
Working Conditions: Work is performed throughout the Park where the incumbent is subject to cuts from hand or power tools and danger from flying splinters or the shop the incumbent is exposed to noise and sawdust in the air. The presence of lead paint on historic fabric may require special knowledge and handling and the use of protective equipment in the shop or at the job site and require special attention and the use of safety equipment. Work is both inside and outside in all types of weather. The incumbent must work at elevations from sea level to above 4000 feet. Temperatures vary from -20 to 90 degrees. Winter snow depths may vary from two to six feet with icy driving conditions involved. The incumbent may be exposed to snow and ice conditions in winter and rain and wind in summer. Work is performed in all types of weather both indoor and outdoors. Considering the nature of historic structures and the unknown structural characteristics field inspections may contain some hazardous conditions (e.g. asbestos PCBs).
