Job Description:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Education and the building Principal the Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and managing effective compliant and fiscally responsible special education services for students at Newman Elementary School.
Essential Functions and Duties of the Position:
The essential functions and duties listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.
- Administers special education eligibility process including chairing team meetings
- Ensures IEPs meet all regulatory and district standards are written to reflect best practice reflect high-quality programming and are implemented with integrity
- Works with building-based teams to develop and implement efficient and effective service delivery models reflecting best practice
- Manages complex and challenging cases by maintaining effective parent staff advocate and outside evaluator contact
- Provides direct administrative oversight to the specialized special education programs at Newman.
- Collaborates with the principal to advance a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) program in the school
- Observes supervises and evaluates Special Education Teachers Related Service Providers andInstrutional Assistants
- Participates in and contribute to student support team meetings
- Plans for and contribute to effective transitions for students and their families
- Works with other school-based Special Education Coordinators and Directors to ensure consistency cohesion and coordination of practices across the district
- Supports general education specialists and teachers
- Collaborates with instructional department leaders to facilitate learning access and opportunity for all students within the general education classrooms and across the school
- Participates as a member of the Newman building-based administrative team to maintain the health safety and daily management of the school.
- Promotes a positive climate for learning sensitively supports all persons and actively works to create an inclusive anti-racist environment.
- Fosters a school environment that is physically and emotionally safe for all members.
- Collaborates closely with the community staff students and administration.
- Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective and respectful communication with students and parents.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Education and Experience:
- Masters Degree with a specialization in Special Education
- Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure as an Administrator of Special Education
Skills Abilities & Knowledge:
- Depth of knowledge regarding special education laws regulations processes and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills enabling information sharing and the development of trusting relationships with parents staff outside evaluators advocates and administrators
- Skill in interpreting assessments and determining educational interventions in response to a learning profile
- Demonstrated skill in meeting facilitation case management communication and pedagogy
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the special education referral and team process
- Experience supervising and evaluating staff
- Teaching or other special education service skills that will benefit the district
Compensation and Benefits:
Per diem rates are based on education and experience. Per diem rates for a Masters is $528.79 - $680.61
