Work involves performing work operations in lifts on staging in ships in dry-docks and under adverse weather conditions which require significant attention to personnel safety. Work involves frequent strenuous activities such as climbing vertical ladders staging or scaffolding in dry-docks and vessel areas; working in cramped quarters undergoing repair; and working in areas where footing may be insecure. Work requires long intervals of sitting and intense concentration for maintaining radiological controls. Lighter activities such as lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds; frequent bending reaching stooping and crouching; and walking over rough areas also are performed.
Incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include but are not limited to fumes dust noise heat ionizing and non-ionizing radiation chemicals.
Incumbent is responsible for following and enforcing all established safety rules and requirements staying informed of all safety and health requirements pertinent to his/her work assignments ensuring all applicable safety equipment is available for task assignment and taking prompt corrective action to abate hazardous workplace conditions. The incumbent must ensure that all requirements and guidance pertinent to the storage use and disposal of hazardous materials are fully understood and followed by the workforce.
Overtime may be required to support the radiological controls department as needed. Work may require some travel.
