The Anesthesiologist will be responsible for the performance and supervision of perioperative anesthetic care to patients including preoperative anesthetic administration and monitoring and post-anesthesia care in compliance with national accreditation standards. Other responsibilities include the management of problems in pain relief management of problems in cardiac and respiratory function and provision of airway management in emergency situations. The Anesthesiologist is responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Other duties include responding to patient telephone calls informing patients of test/lab results and giving telephone or e-mail advice to other providers.
A full range of clinical Anesthesia capabilities is expected in addition to the following administrative responsibilities: participate in the development and implementation of program planning objectives policies and standards essential to the delivery of quality Anesthetic care. He/she must meet Anesthesia-related documentation requirements set forth by the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies
On-call responsibilities will be shared as needed with CRNA staff or as determined by the Associate Chief of Staff Surgical Care ICC.
The incumbent will be responsible and expected to staff ORs as the sole anesthesia provider routinely as needed based on workflow and staffing needs.
The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate complete timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patients electronic record. This is accomplished by utilizing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and the Anesthesia Record Keeping (ARK) System.
The incumbent is responsible for the proper use maintenance and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients.
The incumbent adheres to safety health and infection control standards regulations and work practices as well as ergonomic standards. The incumbent reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor and/or appropriate officials.
The incumbent will provide patient and family education including informed consent. The incumbent will promote a high level of patient and staff satisfaction in the care of our Veterans.
The incumbent demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
The anesthesiologist is expected to participate in performance improvement activities disaster preparedness administrative duties and other responsibilities assigned by the Associate Chief of Staff Surgical Care ICC.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary annual performance bonus regular salary increases
