Mechanical Design Engineer

What a Mechanical Design Engineer does at HP:

• Deliver product design & assemblies to production on time cost and to specification (functionality reliability safety & performance) helping the business accomplish its goals.

• Perform optical illumination and lightpath simulation enabling early prediction and optimization of lightguide and lightpipe performance improving uniformity reducing leakage and accelerating design convergence before tooling.

• Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs including validation of tolerances form/fit/function shock and vibration electromagnetic interference safety reliability & acoustics.

• Collaborates and communicates with management internal and outsourced development partners regarding design status project progress and issue resolution.

• Leads a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately- complex products.

• Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP usually possess:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• Typically 4-10 years experience.

• Using CREO Direct Modelling or other 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool.

• Using TracePro or similar optical/illumination simulation software as a tool for lightpath lightguide and optomechanical design optimization.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

• Strong understanding and experience in product design.

• Designing sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes.

• Ability to effectively communicate product architectures design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
