This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. The Registered Nurse may perform a variety of duties in a health care setting including outpatient inpatient acute and sub-acute this role the Registered Nurse is assigned to Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
As the Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) you will provide pre-operative/procedural care including (but not limited to) the nursing assessment of patients consent and H&P validations the starting of intravenous fluids including venipuncture assisting with peripheral nerve blocks assuring all lab work and other pre-operative/procedural testing is completed and communicated to team members confirms surgical sites are prepared and marked and the administration of medications as ordered. Provide clear and concise preoperative teaching and review discharge instructions to patients and families with written and verbal communication. Monitor post-operative patients level of consciousness after the recovery of anesthesia/sedation. Closely observe signs of side effect of post residual anesthesia medications. Maintain knowledge of current American Society of Peri Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards VHA Directive and service level standard operating procedures. You are responsible for ensuring comprehensive documentation of all phases of care and is timely complete and accurate in the electronic health record.
