Job Summary

Summary

A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a Highly Qualified Individual.

This vacancy will remain open until filled. The first cut-off date is February 10 2026. Additional applications will be referred as needed.

Serve as an active member of the Bonham Interdisciplinary Team providing direct care to individual veterans and veterans groups through continuous observation reporting documentation educational group efforts and follow-up with regard to the security.


Duties

Duties are but not limited to:

- Utilizes rehabilitation strategies and supports the Veteran through their personal growth.
- Clarifies alternatives for positive independence in the rehabilitation process of the Veteran.
- Follows policy and procedures guidelines; assuming temporary control of situations; securing the Veteran and their environment.
- Exercises initiative to resolve problems and deviations in work assignments in accordance with instructions policy training.
- Secures Veteran confidence and cooperation during appointments/interactions by active listening and answering relevant questions.
- Responds to various emergencies in first responder role: fire; weather; external threat; medical; disruption staff and/or Veteran.
- Provides education sessions in an insightful and cooperative manner consistent with clinical treatment directives.
- Interacts with interdisciplinary treatment teams on treatment plan development implementation and progress review.
- Provides accurate and pertinent information during interdisciplinary treatment team planning meetings.
- Exercises sound judgment to help identify Veteran treatment goals.
- Directs and supports the Veteran in an effort to achieve treatment goals.
- Accompanies Veterans to assigned programs/classes as needed.
- Performs continuous safety/security/cleanliness rounding of Veteran living and community areas of Domiciliary to ensure safe environment for Veteran care.
- Documents all relevant Veteran communications/actions via CPRS/5506 with regard to progress toward treatment goals and well-being observations.
- Performs intake/admissions/orientation functions for newly arrived Veterans to the Domiciliary.
- Supports medical personnel through specimen collections breathalyzer and securing of unattended medication.

Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts 24/7 coverage (Tour to be determined upon selection to fit the needs of the service)

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 07/20/2026.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade as required by the this instance you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

    You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

    Individual Occupational Requirement:

    Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior capacities traits interests and activities of either humans or under laboratory conditions animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles methods and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists.

    • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Exercises initiative to resolve problems and deviations in work assignments in accordance with instructions policy training. Provides education sessions in an insightful and cooperative manner consistent with clinical treatment directives. Interacts with interdisciplinary treatment teams on treatment plan development implementation and progress review. Responds to various emergencies in first responder role: fire; weather; external threat; medical; disruption staff and/or patient. Performing continuous safety/security/cleanliness rounding of patient living and community areas to ensure safe environment for patient care.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

    Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

    Physical Requirements: The work requires regularly walking through the 65000 sq. ft. Domiciliary facility with additional walking requirements throughout the remainder of the medical center to facilitate patient programming meetings training and other administrative tasks as may be required. Walking the exterior of the Domiciliary facility is necessary for security rounds. Occasional lifting carrying and pushing of moderately heavy items such as boxes and/or carts weighing up to 30 lbs. Pre-employment physical will be required.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
