Job Summary

Summary

This position is part of the Defense Media Activity. The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert to establish implement and assess cyberspace requirements vulnerabilities and processes to comply with DoD CIO DISA and DoD Cyber Defense Command (DCDC) cybersecurity plans and immediate responses.


Duties

As a IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (NETWORK/INFOSEC) at the GSsome of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Acts as a subject matter expert to establish implement and assess cyberspace incident management requirements vulnerabilities and processes to comply with DoW CIO DISA and Joint Force Headquarters Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN)/ DoW Cyber Defense Command (DCDC) cybersecurity plans and immediate responses.
  • Ensures rigorous application of incident management for information security/information assurance policies principles and practices in the delivery of information system and network services.
  • Maintains vigilance against threats to network and data communications infrastructure ensuring confidentiality integrity and availability through incident management coordination activities between DMA and outside DoW agencies.
  • Provides assessments of information systems across cybersecurity categories including risk firewalls security policies and procedures threat and vulnerability network and system scanning virus web security compliance security counter-measures security system integration and certification and accreditation processes.
  • Ensures Activity-owned or -controlled information systems are assessed for cybersecurity vulnerabilities on a regular basis and that appropriate cybersecurity solutions to eliminate or otherwise mitigate identified vulnerabilities are recorded directed and implemented.
  • Develops and recommends policies governing services and objectives for cybersecurity incident management.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Developing improving and implementing Cybersecurity and Vulnerability Management program on classified and unclassified networks and systems.
  • Providing management and coordination of internal efforts towards timely and efficient support of the local remote and contingency sites in all theaters of operation supporting agency activities.
  • Providing expert technical advice guidance and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical cybersecurity issues security concepts methods standards and practices in compliance with cybersecurity policies procedures laws regulations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.


In addition to meeting qualifications your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 2210 series.

This position has an individual occupational requirement (IOR) which must be met in order to qualify for this position. You must have Information Technology (IT)-related experience which demonstrates proficiency in each of the following four competencies listed below:

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces including the general public individuals who work in the agency other agencies or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs provide information or assistance resolve their problems or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.
